Jamie Nichols is a passionate and technically articulate teacher, critically acclaimed for the emotional intensity and eloquence of her dancing and winner of 6 Lester Horton Dance Awards for Outstanding Achievement three for production of Celebrate Dance at the Alex Theatre. She most recently honored with the Lester Horton Dance Award for Furthering The Visibility of Dance by the Dance Resource Center. For 23 years she was Artistic Director of Fast Feet, a contemporary dance company, taught dance and movement professionally in Los Angeles since 1978, choreographed and danced for film and video. As a well respected member of the professional dance community, Ms. Nichols has been an adjudicator for the Performing Arts Center for Los Angeles County Spotlight Awards, the selection committee for The Los Angeles Dance Invitational 2001-2009, the production coordinator for The Celebration of Dance festival (presented by Ballet Of The Foothills) at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA. 2003-04, on the Board of Directors of the Jazz Dance L.A. Foundation 2000-2001 and The Dance Resource Center of Greater Los Angeles where she served in an administrative position as Membership Chair 2000-2003 and has been a panelist for the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department Cultural / Regional Grants. As a producer: Co-Produced of The Los Angeles Dance Invitational (2001-09), Co-Produced with Bethune Theatredanse Ray Bradbury’s Frost & Fire at the Alex Theater, Co-Produced modern dance icon Marion Scott’s Spirit Dances 10 at Highways Performance Space and is Executive Producer of the fabulously successful annual Celebrate Dance Festival (2006-2011) at the Alex Theatre which has won 3 consecutive Lester Horton Dance Awards for Festival or Series(06-07-08). As a social activist in her community of Pasadena, she created three site-specific performance pieces benefiting the Pasadena AIDS Service Center. Jamie Nichols continues to support other dancers, choreographers and companies and believes artists benefit profoundly from volunteering services to their communities.
