JAMIE NICHOLS Contemporary Modern/Jazz

A passionate and technically articulate teacher critically acclaimed for the emotional intensity and eloquence of her dancing and winner of 6 Lester Horton Dance Awards and the Lester Horton Furthering the Visibility of Dance Award. For 23 years Artistic Director of Fast Feet, a contemporary dance company, teaches dance and movement professionally in Los Angeles, choreographed and danced for film and video.
Jamie’s classes are a hybrid of her own innovative movement vocabulary. Beginning with a thorough warm-up focusing on the upper body, the back, core and all the ingredients needed to fully engage the body and prepare for the dance she creates. The class is an opportunity for the dancer to learn movement phrases that blend musicality, passion, and Nichols’ powerful technique threaded seamlessly into a very special experience. She brings to class an infectious drive that inspires any level or age of dancer to want to move.
Jamie is an active member of the professional dance community and she has served as an adjudicator of arts awards and grants, on the Board of The Jazz Dance LA Foundation, The Dance Resource Center of Los Angeles, Co-Producer of The Los Angeles Dance Invitational, Co-Produced Bethune Theatredanse’s Frost & Fire, modern dance icon Marion Scott’s Spirit Dances 10 at Highways, Executive Producer of The 16th Annual Lester Horton Dance Awards and is Executive Producer of the successful annual Celebrate Dance Festival the award wining dance festival at the Alex Theatre. She currently teaches movement for actors at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood.http://www.celebratedance.org
